To solve these problems, the enterprise decided to upgrade the safety instrumented system (SIS) of the ethylene cracking unit, and finally selected the Z7128 safety controller produced by HIMA as the core control equipment of the new SIS.
A large-scale petrochemical enterprise located in the coastal industrial zone is engaged in the production of ethylene and its downstream derivatives. The ethylene cracking unit is the core equipment of the enterprise, with the characteristics of high temperature, high pressure, flammability and explosiveness. The safety of the production process is directly related to the personal safety of employees and the stable operation of the enterprise. In the original production system, the safety control equipment has been in operation for more than 10 years, with frequent failures, slow response speed and difficulty in meeting the current safety production standards and regulatory requirements.
Project Requirements 2.1High Safety Integrity Level (SIL): The ethylene cracking unit belongs to high-risk process, and the SIS is required to reach SIL 3 level to effectively prevent and control major safety accidents such as fire, explosion and toxic gas leakage 2.2High Reliability and Stability: The equipment needs to operate continuously and stably in harsh working environments such as high temperature, high humidity and strong electromagnetic interference, with low failure rate and long service life. 2.3Fast Response Speed: When abnormal conditions occur in the production process (such as over-temperature, over-pressure, etc.), the SIS must quickly issue control commands (such as emergency shutdown, pressure relief, etc.) to minimize the scope of accidents and reduce losses. 2.4Easy Maintenance and Expansion: The system should have a friendly man-machine interface, be easy to debug and maintain, and at the same time have good scalability to meet the needs of future production capacity expansion and process optimization.
Solution Based on Z7128 HIMA
In view of the project requirements, the technical team designed a set of SIS solution centered on Z7128 HIMA safety controller, which mainly includes the following parts:
3.1Core Control Unit:
Adopt Z7128 safety controller with dual redundant configuration. The controller has been certified by TÜV, fully meeting SIL 3 safety integrity level requirements. It has strong anti-interference ability and can work stably in harsh industrial environments. The dual redundant design ensures that even if one controller fails, the other can take over the work immediately without affecting the normal operation of the system.
3.2Signal Acquisition and Output Module:
Equipped with HIMA's dedicated AI (Analog Input) module, DI (Digital Input) module, AO (Analog Output) module and DO (Digital Output) module. These modules can accurately collect various process parameters (such as temperature, pressure, flow rate) and equipment status signals in the ethylene cracking unit, and stably output control signals to drive executive components (such as solenoid valves, emergency shutdown valves). 3.3Human-Machine Interface (HMI):
Configure HIMA's HIMatrix HMI workstation, which provides intuitive operation interface and real-time monitoring functions. Operators can view the operation status of the system, process parameters and alarm information in real time through the HMI. At the same time, the HMI supports historical data query and report generation, which is convenient for enterprise management and maintenance personnel to analyze and summarize. 3.4Communication Network:
Adopt industrial Ethernet and Profibus-DP communication protocols to realize data transmission and sharing between Z7128 controller, field instruments and other control systems (such as DCS). The communication network has the characteristics of high speed, high reliability and strong anti-interference ability, ensuring the smoothness and real-time performance of information transmission.
