KEY FEATURES

  • Redundant FBM231 modules enable communication with dual-ported devices
  • Four software-configurable ports (each supports RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485)
  • Compliance with RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 communication interface standards
  • Downloadable I/O software drivers from a library of available protocols
  • Support for up to 2000 DCI block connections
  • Capacity to communicate with:
    • Up to 64 RS-485 devices
    • Up to 4 directly connected RS-232 or RS-422 devices
  • Seamless integration of field device data into the Foxboro control database
  • Field-mountable design
  • Suitable for Class G3 (harsh) environments
A pair of FBM231 modules work together to provide redundancy at the Fieldbus Module (FBM) level, with field wiring connected to two termination assemblies. In this configuration:
    • One FBM231 operates as the Master module, and the other as the Tracker module.
    • Input points on the control station are updated using device inputs received via the Master’s network connection.
    • Device output points (depending on the I/O driver) are written by both the Master and Tracker modules.
    • Role switching occurs automatically if the I/O driver detects issues (e.g., heartbeat loss), or users can manually switch roles at any time via SMDH.
The FBM231 is equipped with four ports, each configurable individually in software for RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485. This flexibility allows a single FBM231 to connect to multiple similar but non-identical devices. Additionally:
    • Ports 1, 2, 3, and/or 4 can be configured as a single logical port with redundant cables, enabling interfacing with dual-ported I/O devices in the plant.
    • The FBM231 and its associated termination assemblies (TA) support multiple connection types:
      • Direct connections to dual-ported devices
      • Modem connections (when using the RS-232 interface)
      • Multidrop connections to RS-485 devices
      • Intrinsic safety devices (connected between the TA and field devices)
    • For single-ported devices, the FBM230 is recommended.
